About Orange Bloom Burst
A domed bouquet fills the centre of the canvas, built from hundreds of short palette-knife strokes in orange, tangerine and deep red, with small flicks of yellow scattered through the mass like pollen. Below the flowers the stems gather into a tight bundle of fine dark lines, tied with a loose loop of black, and a wash of pale yellow lights the background behind them. The petals sit high off the surface, each one a single loaded stroke with a visible ridge and clean edge.
Behind the bouquet the background is scored into concentric rings of violet, lilac and black, drawn out with the tip of the knife so the circles ripple to the corners. The effect is direct and energetic: a bold, high-contrast floral that reads clearly from across a room.
Works above a sideboard in a dining room, in an entry hall, or over a low bookshelf in a lounge. The violet background suits grey, charcoal or white walls, and the orange picks up timber furniture, brass lamps and terracotta pots.
