About Tuscan Poppy Road
A wide panoramic view across a field of red poppies in the foreground, thickly loaded with the palette knife so each bloom sits as a raised dab of scarlet against strokes of gold and olive grass. A pale road curves from the lower left, edged by small white fence posts, and sweeps up a tawny hillside towards a cluster of cream houses with terracotta roofs and a row of dark cypress. To the right, a flat blue-grey lake meets a shoreline of ochre scrub, with soft violet hills along the horizon under a cream and apricot sky.
The character is warm and open: heavy knife work in the flowers holds real ridges of paint, while the distant village, water and sky are thinned and smoothed so the eye travels along the road into the haze.
Built for a long wall: above a three-seater sofa, a sideboard, or a dining table in a room with warm white or clay walls. The reds sit well with timber furniture, rattan, linen in oatmeal, and terracotta pots. It also suits a hallway where the curving road leads the eye along the passage.
