About Coastal Village Lane
A paved lane runs downhill between two rows of terracotta and cream buildings and opens onto a blue bay. The paving is laid in thick knife-cut squares of orange, red, pink and pale grey, brightest in the foreground where it reads as wet stone. On the right a tall ochre house carries shuttered windows and window boxes of red and yellow blooms; on the left a red-roofed cottage and a brick wall sit under a canopy of gold and green foliage. Two white sails mark the water, with hazy blue headlands behind.
Flowers are built up in short dabs of crimson, white and lemon along both kerbs, and small white houses cluster at the far end of the lane. The sky is soft blue with flat cream clouds. Colour is loaded on with the knife and left ridged, so the surface catches light. Its character is warm and sunlit, a quiet holiday street that pulls the eye straight down to the sea.
Suits an entry hall, stairwell or dining room where a tall narrow wall needs depth. The terracotta and orange paving works with timber furniture, rattan, linen and warm white walls, and the blue bay picks up navy or denim upholstery.
