About Red Poppy Valley
A wide field of red poppies fills the lower half of the canvas, the blooms built up in short ridges of thick paint so each flower catches the light. Behind them the land flattens into ochre and gold crop rows crossed by a pale winding road that loops back toward a cluster of small buildings. At right, a white villa with a red tile roof sits among olive-toned trees, with pink climbing flowers at its wall and a small dark figure standing by the doorway. Hazy blue mountains close the distance.
The sky is broad and light, painted in soft blue with long white cloud banks brushed thinly across it. Green grasses and dark stems are scratched in at the field's edge, while yellow dots mark the poppy centres. The mood is warm and settled: a bright summer afternoon in open farming country, with the red field doing all the talking.
Suits a dining room, hallway or living area where a strong block of red can carry the wall. Works with cream, sand or pale grey paint, timber furniture and rattan or linen.
