About Golden Valley Poppies
A wide panoramic view looks across a bank of red poppies in the foreground to rolling yellow hills and a pale, washed sky. The poppies are laid on with a palette knife in short scarlet slabs, each flower a raised dab with a darker centre, packed densely along the lower half of the canvas. Between them sit small dots of violet and white, and upright strokes of ochre and dark olive read as stems and grasses. A narrow path of light cuts through the middle distance.
The far hills are painted flatter and thinner in butter yellow and cream, with soft grey-blue ridges and two slim dark spires marking a distant village. The character is bright and open: heavy, tactile colour in front, quiet haze behind.
The long horizontal shape suits a sofa wall in a lounge room, a dining room sideboard or a wide hallway. The scarlet and gold read well against white, cream or pale grey walls and warm timber floors. It pairs with linen upholstery, rattan and brass, and gives a colour anchor to a neutral room without extra artwork.
