About Rainbow Rhino
A single rhinoceros fills the lower half of a square canvas, its head turned to the right so the long curved black horn and a smaller second horn cut across the pale grey background. The body is built from flat slabs of palette knife colour: mustard yellow across the shoulder, a block of red over the back, green running down the foreleg, and pink and white through the muzzle. The lowered head is painted in cobalt and turquoise, with dark liner strokes marking the eye, ear tufts and the folds of the snout.
The background is left thin and quiet, brushed in soft grey-white with faint streaks, so the loaded colour of the animal carries the whole picture. The character is bold and playful rather than realistic, with the rhino's bulk suggested by edges of bare canvas and ridges of paint that catch the light.
Works in a living room above a low sideboard, in a child's or teenager's bedroom, or in a playroom and family kitchen. The pale grey ground suits white and light timber walls, while the yellow and blue blocks pick up bright cushions, rugs and coloured ceramics. Hang it on its own so the colour has room.
