A large red cow's head fills the upper part of the poster against a solid black background. Its eyes are closed, its mouth is wide open in a laugh, and a cream blaze runs down its face to a pale muzzle. The horns and inner ears catch warm yellow-cream highlights.
Each ear carries a round yellow cheese box as an earring, the left one showing a small coloured label. Yellow capitals at the top read "BEL et BON". At the bottom, "GRUYÈRES de la" sits above the larger "VACHE qui RIT". The flat colour and bold lettering give it an early French advertising feel.
