About Pop Art Leopard Quartet
Four leopard faces fill a square black background in a two by two grid, each one staring straight ahead. The colour is applied in horizontal bands so a single face moves from purple ears to a yellow rosette-patterned brow, then a cyan muzzle and a pink nose. The other three repeat the idea in different orders: green and magenta, pink and lime, yellow and cyan. Dark rosette markings read clearly across the brow of every cat, and fine white whiskers fan out to the sides.
Scattered dots and flecks of paint colour float around the heads in yellow, cyan, magenta and green, giving the grid a splattered, screen-printed feel. The character is loud and graphic, a pop art take on a big cat that relies on black negative space to make the fluorescent colour jump.
Works in a teenager's bedroom, a games or rumpus room, a home office that needs a jolt of colour, or a beach house hallway. The black ground suits dark timber, charcoal walls and white plaster equally. Pair it with plain black or white furniture and keep other artwork minimal so the neon stays the focus.
