About Li River Xingping China
A fisherman in a conical straw hat and dark jacket stands mid-raft on the shallow Li River, one arm extended. Two cormorants perch with him: one on a pole at the far left with wings folded, another at the right with wings spread to dry. Behind them the pointed karst peaks of Xingping rise in overlapping grey layers, softened by mist, under a heavy bank of cloud lit gold and pale apricot where the sun breaks through low on the horizon.
The water fills the lower half of the frame, clear enough to show the pebbled riverbed in the foreground and smooth enough to hold a full reflection of the figure and the lashed bamboo poles. A red bundle and a yellow sack sit on the raft, the only strong colour in an otherwise grey-gold scene. The photograph is quiet and balanced, with the still surface doing most of the work.
Suits a bedroom, hallway or a living room with muted walls, timber furniture and linen. The grey, olive and gold tones sit well with rattan, stone and dark-stained wood, and it works as a calm counterpoint in coastal or beach house rooms. Hang it where side light won't flatten the misty peaks. Browse more animal art, blue art, brown and earthy art, or read Art above the bed: what size and how high.
