About Light Years
A large dark disc dominates the canvas, its centre a deep charcoal-green that deepens towards the middle like the inside of a bowl. A crescent of paler grey-green sweeps around the upper left edge, outlined by a fine gold line that continues down and loops off the lower edge. To the upper right sits a mustard-yellow oval, part overlapping the disc; below right, a soft cream shape rests against the rim. The surrounding field is ochre, rust and warm brown, scraped and mottled.
There is real surface here: combed and stippled marks, dry-brushed ridges and thin gold lines drawn into wet paint. The painting reads as quiet and geological rather than loud, a balance of one dark form against two small warm ones.
Suits warm neutral rooms with timber, leather or rattan. Good above a sideboard in a dining room, in a hallway with clay or oatmeal walls, or over a bed with linen bedding.
