About Patchwork Parlour Chair
A single club armchair sits slightly turned to the left on a flat, pale grey background with no floor line, so the chair appears to float. Every surface of the upholstery is built from short, loaded palette-knife strokes in mismatched colours: lime and olive green across the backrest, coral and apricot on the seat front, sky blue and white along the cushion, plum, magenta, mustard and charcoal scattered through the arms. Small checked and striped patches break up the blocks, and the turned front legs taper in brown and navy.
The paint stands well off the canvas, catching real light along each ridge, while the plain grey ground keeps the whole thing calm rather than busy. It reads as one ordinary armchair rebuilt entirely out of colour.
Works in a lounge room, reading nook or hallway where a plain grey, white or pale timber wall lets the raised paint catch light. Pairs well with a solid-coloured sofa, linen upholstery and brass or black metal lamps. Good above a low bookshelf, sideboard or entry bench in a flat or family home.
