About Colour Burst Cyclist
A racing cyclist is shown side-on, crouched low over dropped handlebars, mid-pedal. The figure is built entirely from blocks of unmixed colour laid on with a knife: yellow and blue across the back, red and violet on the helmet, orange and magenta down the thigh, a pale blue sock and a bright red shoe on the pedal. The bicycle is drawn in flat black, the frame, forks and spoked front wheel reading as clean graphic lines against a soft grey-white background that fades out at the edges.
The contrast between the loose, heavily loaded colour of the rider and the tight black linework of the bike gives the painting its energy. It reads as movement and speed without any background detail at all.
Suits a home gym, garage bar, hallway or a study where a bike hangs on the wall. The plain grey-white ground sits well against white or concrete-look walls, and the red and blue blocks pick up well with charcoal furniture, timber shelving or a black metal frame.
