About Water Bearer in Violet
A single elongated figure stands centred on a square canvas, her body simplified into long dark limbs and a smooth oval head. She wears a violet wrap painted in broad vertical strokes, streaked with white and lilac where the knife has dragged the paint. One raised hand steadies a round terracotta pot at her shoulder; the other arm curves down to hold a second, larger pot at her hip. A white beaded necklace and pale drop earrings catch the light against the near-black skin.
The background is built entirely from short ochre, rust and pale grey knife marks, layered into a warm wall of broken colour with no horizon or setting. The paint sits thickly, so the surface carries real ridges that pick up light across the orange field. The character here is calm and upright: a quiet, stylised figure study that reads as pattern and warmth as much as portrait.
The warm ochre field suits rooms with timber, rattan or leather, and the violet wrap lifts against white, sand or clay-coloured walls.
