About Amber Sky Lakeshore
A band of amber and ochre sky fills the top quarter of the canvas, fading to pale cream near the right where a low sun sits behind haze. Beneath it a dark ridge of hills and scrub runs across the width, rising to a small red-brown peak just right of centre. The middle of the painting is a broad sheet of grey-green water, brushed in long horizontal strokes with pale streaks of light drifting across its surface. At the left edge a single dark tree with a spreading, feathered canopy leans in from a shadowed bank.
The foreground is a wide plane of deep red-brown earth, scumbled and dragged so that ochre and rust show through, with a faint line of small marks reading as fence posts or stock near the lower left. Paint is thin and layered, edges softened rather than drawn. The overall character is quiet and dusk-lit, a landscape reduced to three broad bands of colour with one tree holding the composition together.
Suits a lounge room or hallway with white, grey or clay-toned walls, and works over a low timber sideboard or a linen sofa. The red-brown foreground picks up terracotta pots, leather chairs and jarrah floors, while the grey-green water sits well with sage cushions and black-framed photographs.
