A peacock stands on a thick, gnarled branch at the left of a square frame, its head turned down and its crest of fine feathers standing up. The body is drawn in dark brown and cream with dense speckling across the wing and chest, in the manner of an engraving or etching.
The long train spills down the right side, filled with eye-spots and wispy, fine-lined barbs in cream and pale grey. A flat, pale circle of moon sits behind the branch on a mottled taupe-grey background. The surface looks scratched and weathered, like aged paper, and the palette stays in muted browns, creams and greys.
