About Morning Ritual
A woman sits with her back to the viewer, her body turned slightly so the curve of her spine and the line of her shoulder blades run down the centre of the canvas. Her dark hair is gathered into a loose, low braid that falls over one shoulder, with strokes of gold lifting the crown and the tie. The skin is built from thin, warm washes of beige and brown, shaded with soft charcoal along the spine and waist, and a pale cloth gathers at her hips.
The background is deliberately unfinished: a cream and grey field with a dark vertical block of maroon and green at the left edge, plus scratched linear marks and a small signature at lower right. The mood is quiet and private, more a study of light on skin than a portrait.
Suits bedrooms, dressing rooms, ensuites and hallways where the palette is already soft. It sits well with cream or greige walls, linen bedding, oak or walnut timber, and brushed brass or silver fittings. Hang it alone above a bedhead or a low chest rather than crowding it with other framed work. Browse more nude art, the Statton Collection, women in art.
