About Musicale
A gold alto saxophone stands upright across the centre of the canvas, its bell curving to the lower right and its neck and mouthpiece tilting left at the top. Behind it sits a black grand piano rendered in flat silhouette, with a short run of white and black keys at the upper left and two heavy black lid shapes leaning to the right. The background is a wash of ochre, mustard and olive, covered in looping brown script that reads as handwriting rather than legible words.
The saxophone is built up in heavy impasto, so the keywork, pearl touches and bell ring catch real light and sit proudly off the surface, while the piano is kept thin and matte. The overall character is warm and jazz-club moody, graphic in shape but tactile up close.
Suits a music room, piano corner, home bar or a hallway near a record collection. The ochre ground works with timber floors, tan leather and brass lamps, and the black shapes tie in with a dark media unit or wrought iron. Good above an upright piano or a sideboard holding vinyl.
