About Old Rose Field
A loose cluster of blooms sits in the middle of the canvas, set against a warm wash of apricot and dusty rose. Five or six flower heads are readable: cream and buttermilk petals with small dark red and ochre centres, and one rounded pink bloom to the right circled by curved strokes. The rest dissolves into soft smudges of pink and white. Charcoal and olive marks read as leaves and shadow low in the composition, with thin scratched lines rising like stems through the lower third.
The paint is dragged and wiped rather than drawn, so edges stay blurred and the flowers seem half-remembered. It is a quiet, warm-toned painting that reads as colour and atmosphere first, flowers second.
Suits bedrooms, dressing rooms and lounge areas with warm white, oatmeal or clay-toned walls. The apricot and dusty pink sit well with brass or rattan, linen bedding and pale timber. Hang it above a bedhead or a low sideboard where the soft edges have room, or pair with plain cream ceramics. Browse more floral art, the Statton Collection, purple and pink art.
