A large butterfly sits with its wings open across the middle of the frame. The right forewing is deep pink fading to pale lilac, edged in crimson with small white spots. The left wing is olive and mustard with a dark brown border and cream flecks, and the lower wings blend soft mint green into white.
The background is a cream sheet of faded ledger lines and handwritten French script, with pale grasses sketched in light brown. Soft blurred green and pink spots drift behind the wings. Large brown calligraphy spells "Papillon" at top left and "Monarque" along the bottom right, with a slightly raised, textured finish in this illustration.
