About Paris Day
A wide boulevard runs from the bottom of the canvas into the distance, where the Eiffel Tower stands in pale blue haze against a sky of deep cobalt and cream. Tall apartment buildings with mansard roofs line both sides, their ground-floor shopfronts glowing amber. A small red tram sits mid-street, with a black horse-drawn carriage to the right and a leafy tree breaking the left-hand facades. Figures in ochre, crimson and dark green coats cluster along the footpaths and cross the road.
The paint is laid on thickly with a knife in the pavement and rooftops, then softened to thin washes for the tower and distant domes. Its character is warm and busy: an ordinary Paris afternoon rather than a postcard view, with wet road surfaces catching reflected shop light.
Suits a hallway, dining room or lounge where the long street view can be seen from a distance. The ochre and cobalt sit well with timber floors, cream walls and brass or bronze lighting. Pairs with leather armchairs, bookshelves and other European city scenes, or hangs alone above a sideboard. Browse more Paris art, streetscapes, people and figures.
