About Patterns
The canvas is built from long horizontal bands that run the full width, stacked like sediment or a low shoreline seen from a distance. A wide gold-ochre band sits above centre, scratched through with fine combed lines so the paint underneath shows. Below it a dark slate-grey band runs heavy and flat, softened at its edges where cream paint drags across. Thin white drips fall from the gold band, and a second narrow gold stripe with incised marks closes the bottom edge.
The paint is applied in broad, dry sweeps with visible ridges, and the metallic passages catch light differently to the chalky cream. Overall it reads as quiet and weathered rather than bold, with just enough gold and drip work to hold attention up close.
The long, low format suits a wall above a sofa, a bedhead or a hallway console. The cream and slate ground works with white or greige walls, linen upholstery and oak or pale timber furniture, while the gold bands pick up brass lamps, mirror frames and warm-toned floors in living and dining rooms.
