A long timber pier runs in from the left edge and narrows toward the middle of the frame. Its dark deck sits on rows of closely spaced piles, and a line of small lamp posts follows the railing. A single flagpole rises near the far end, where the structure stops abruptly.
The long exposure has smoothed the water into a soft, milky haze with no visible waves, and the horizon fades into a pale grey sky. The image is black and white, with the near-black pier set against a wide, quiet space of light grey tones. The foreground fades into mist.
