A field of golden grass fills the lower two thirds of the image, scattered with round red poppies that grow larger and sharper towards the bottom edge. Each flower has a small yellow-green centre. Streaks of lilac and violet run through the grass on the right, and a band of pink sits at the lower left.
At the top a stone farmhouse with a red roof sits among rounded trees in crimson, ochre and grey-green, with a tall dark cypress beside it. A low stone wall runs along the field and a rocky hill rises on the right. The sky glows pale yellow, giving the whole scene a warm dusk light and a thick, textured brush-stroke look. A signature sits at the lower left.
