About Promise of Friendship
A square landscape built from dense stippled dots of paint. Two flat-topped acacia-like trees frame the scene, the larger one on the right with a broad canopy of magenta, crimson and dark plum speckles, the smaller one at left echoing it. Behind them the sky burns from deep aubergine at the top edge through a band of hot pink and orange into pale cream at the horizon. A low mound of foliage sits in the middle distance. Three small dark figures stand on the pale plain between the trees.
The foreground grass is a carpet of orange, gold and violet flecks, laid on thickly so the surface catches light. It reads as a warm, quiet scene at dusk, with the two trees and the tiny figures giving a sense of distance across open country.
Warm enough to anchor a lounge room with terracotta, rust or plum cushions, and it works above a low timber sideboard or a bedhead. The square shape suits a narrow chimney breast or the space between two windows. Pairs well with woven baskets, brass lamps and dark-stained furniture.
