About Purity
Two calla lilies fill the upper and middle of a portrait canvas, set against a dark grey ground that has been brushed and scraped so faint vertical streaks and a cooler blue-grey patch show through on the lower left. The upper bloom turns away, its spathe rolling into a long thin tip that trails to the right edge. The lower, larger flower faces the viewer, showing a pale yellow spadix resting in the cup and a curled point reaching left. Two thick stems descend and leave the bottom edge.
Modelling is smooth and tonal, the white petals carrying grey shadows along each fold rather than hard outlines. The overall character is quiet and restrained, closer to a black-and-white photographic study than a bright floral.
Suits bedrooms, hallways and bathrooms where a calm, near-monochrome piece is wanted, and works above a dark timber sideboard or a charcoal sofa. It sits comfortably with grey linen, black metal frames and white walls, and pairs well with other tonal floral or botanical prints hung in a vertical column. The quality of the work is ten out of ten. The piece was affordable and the turnaround time was quite quick. What you see is what you get. I’ll definitely be getting my next painting from Direct Art Australia.
My wife already had a couple of pieces of custom ordered paintings she had collected throughout the last few years and with your large selection to choose from she found the perfect complimentary piece to finish off her room.
