Eight loose watercolour poppies open at different heights on thin yellow-green stems against a warm off-white paper ground. The largest bloom, in coral and orange with a dark charcoal centre, sits left of centre. A teal poppy with a blue-green flowering sibling, a magenta-purple bloom at top right and a deep plum one below it break up the warm tones.
Pigment pools and bleeds at the petal edges, leaving small white gaps where the paper shows through. Round olive-yellow seed pods and feathery, fern-like leaves fill the spaces between flowers, with pale yellow washes behind the stems. A small signature sits at the lower left. The portrait format keeps the eye moving upward from the stems to the blooms.
