About Rare Earth II
A portrait abstract built from rectangular blocks that meet near the centre. The upper left is banded in olive, khaki and a strip of deep teal, laid down like weathered plaster. Lower left holds a solid panel of rust copper, while the right side carries cream, ochre and a dark brown block near the base. Cutting diagonally through the middle is a soft turquoise and white cloud, its edges bleeding into orange rust stains and pale mineral grey.
Surfaces look scratched, scraped and mottled, with fine speckling, chalky bloom and hairline cracks that read like old wall render or oxidised metal. The turquoise passage is the only fluid element, pooling and feathering where it meets the harder geometric edges. The overall character is quiet and weathered: warm mineral tones held in balance by one cool current of blue-green, calm rather than loud, with enough surface detail to hold attention up close.
Suits a bedroom above a timber bedhead, a hallway, or a bathroom with stone tiles and brass tapware. The rust and olive tones pair with leather, rattan and terracotta pots, while the turquoise lifts a room with white or greige walls. Works well on a narrow wall beside a window or in a beach house entry. Browse more blue art, brown and earthy art, or read Art above the bed: what size and how high.
