About Red Planet
A portrait-format abstract built in vertical bands. Wide panels of deep red run down both edges, incised with fine scribbled lines, and each is bordered by a narrow slate-blue stripe carrying small pale circles and hand-drawn marks. The centre opens into a pale grey field, heavily scraped and troweled, that warms into orange and ochre as it falls toward the base. High in the upper right sits a circular disc ringed by a raised gold rope, its interior mottled with green, pink and rust.
Below the disc, a tangle of thin white and black lines rises like reeds from a dark horizontal smear, and a gold, spiny oval shape pushes in from the lower left. The character is weathered and mineral, a worked surface that reads like an old plastered wall with one bright planet fixed above it.
Suits a lounge room or entry with white, grey or limewashed walls, where the red bands can carry across a long wall. Works above a low timber sideboard, a charcoal linen sofa or a leather armchair, and pairs with brass lamps, woven baskets, terracotta pots and dark stained floors.
