About Respite
A square canvas washed in soft mint, pale lilac and cream, with colour gathering through the centre and lower right. Cobalt and ultramarine blue sweep down from the upper middle into a band of magenta, violet and teal, while a warm apricot wash spreads across the left side above a curtain of thin orange drips. Small clusters of thickly loaded white, orange and hot pink dabs sit like blossom on the left, and a ridge of palette-knife white impasto rises through the middle of the composition.
The mood is light and airy rather than dramatic: the gentle upper half gives the eye somewhere to rest while the drips and bright dabs below keep it lively.
Suits a bedroom, nursery or light-filled living room with white or pale grey walls. It works above a low bed head, a pale timber sideboard or a linen sofa, and pairs with rattan, brushed brass and soft greens.
