About Sailing
Two large yachts lean to the right across the centre of the canvas, their tall triangular sails built up in thick cream, beige and white palette-knife strokes. Bands of orange and blue run across the sailcloth, with small blue pennants flying from both mastheads. Dark navy hulls sit low in the water, throwing short white wakes. A third, smaller yacht sails near the right edge, and a pale grey skyline of towers is blocked in at the left behind a veil of mist.
The water is scraped in flat horizontal greys and mauves, with yellow and orange reflections dragged beneath the nearest hull. It is a brisk, high-key painting where the texture of the knife does most of the work.
Suits a coastal or harbourside home, a hallway, a bedroom or a home office wall. The upright format fits narrow spaces between windows or above a console table. Pairs with pale timber, linen and white or soft grey walls, and picks up navy cushions or a rust-toned rug. Browse more seascape oil paintings, all hand-painted oil paintings.
