Five white sailboats sit across the middle of a wide, horizontal scene, the tallest one just right of centre. Each sail is built from thick, scraped strokes of white and pale cream, with flecks of turquoise and thin red lines near the masts. The boats shrink toward the right, which gives the row a sense of depth.
The water is a soft teal that melts into sage green and sandy yellow in the foreground. Smudges of rust red, burnt orange and cream float on the surface like reflections or shallows. Above, the sky moves from aqua through lilac-grey to a warm, hazy yellow glow on the left. The loose, textured brushwork keeps the scene semi-abstract.
