A sepia-toned photograph of a beech forest in mist. Tall, slender trunks rise past the top of the frame, and the nearest ones on the left and right are the darkest. Their bases flare into roots across a floor of fallen leaves, and a fallen log lies across the bottom left.
The middle of the scene is pale and hazy. Vertical streaks of light run down between the trunks, and a bright glow sits to the right of centre. Fine bare branches with a few small leaves reach across the gaps. The vertical blur gives the trees a soft, almost brushed look against the sharper trunks and leaf litter below.
