About Serene
A wide low horizon runs across the middle of the canvas, dividing a tall sky from a flat open plain. The upper half moves from blue-grey cloud at the top corners into bands of buttery yellow and cream near the horizon, with a smoky grey cloud shelf drifting in from the right. Below, a line of pale trees and hedgerow sits along the skyline, with two darker trees on the left and one faint tree at centre standing out as small grey-brown shapes. The foreground is a broad apricot and blush field, washed with thin horizontal strokes.
The paint is laid on in soft, thinned layers with blurred edges, closer to watercolour than to thick impasto, so nothing is sharply drawn except the little trees. The overall character is quiet and hazy, a still early-morning plain with almost no detail to hold the eye.
Suits bedrooms, main living rooms and hallways where the walls are white, oatmeal or pale grey. The apricot and blue-grey palette works with linen upholstery, light oak or blond timber furniture and brass or matte black fittings. Good above a low sideboard or bedhead, and calm enough for a consulting room or quiet reading corner. Browse more landscape oil paintings, multi-coloured art, all hand-painted oil paintings.
