Six separate feathers stand upright on a plain white background, arranged in a loose row with no overlap. The tallest sits in the centre, a long grey feather with pale oval spots along its vane. Beside it is a broad brown and cream feather with fine, frayed barbs at the base and dense stippling along its edge.
Each feather is drawn in fine black ink lines, then washed with watercolour in ochre yellow, warm brown, soft grey and cream. Two feathers carry dark barred markings over golden yellow, and a black and white one on the right is banded with crisp white flecks. A small downy feather sits low, rust orange at its tip. Hatching and dotted shading give each quill a textured, studied look.
