About Winged Muse
A single elongated female figure sits at the centre of the square canvas, knees drawn up and head tilted down so the face is hidden behind a fall of ribbon-like hair that loops out to the left. Behind her a wide brown wing sweeps up and across the top right corner, its edge blurred into a pale glow at the upper left. The lower half of the canvas is a plainly drawn brick wall in olive and grey, with a carved rosette on the left block. The body is modelled in smooth greys and soft browns, while the paint around it is brushed on in flat, dry, overlapping strokes.
The mood is quiet and inward, more a pose held in stillness than a moment of movement, with the muted palette keeping the whole image restrained.
Suits a bedroom, hallway or a quiet corner of a lounge room where a single calm image is wanted. The ochre and grey sit well with limewashed walls, natural linen, oak or walnut furniture and jute rugs. Works as a centred square above a low sideboard, bedhead or a two-seater sofa.
