About Olive Bead Garland
Thin vertical lines run the full height of the canvas like hanging threads, and strung along them are flattened leaf or pod shapes. Two pale blue-white pods sit right of centre and near the top, a warm peach pod anchors the lower left, and a dense black pod fills the middle right. Small round beads punctuate the darkest line: one cream circle on the left, three black dots stacked on the right. The background moves from deep olive-gold to a lighter mustard.
Ghosted outlines of further pods sit faintly behind the solid shapes, so the pattern reads as layered rather than flat. The pods carry fine horizontal ridging in the paint, and the black pod is built up thickly with a crusted, granular surface. The overall character is calm and orderly, a quiet mid-century pattern with just enough texture to catch side light.
Works above a low sideboard or a walnut credenza in a living or dining room, where the olive-gold ground picks up brass lamps, rattan and tan leather. Suits mid-century furniture, boucle seating and cream walls, and pairs well with a black-framed mirror or ceramic vases in charcoal and off-white.
