About Quiet Repose
A young dancer sits with her back to the viewer, head bowed and turned to the left so only her profile shows. Her hair is drawn into a loose bun painted in bronze and gold. One arm folds across her body while the other rests over her shoulder, and a pale skirt spills to the right in broad ribbed folds. The background is built from sweeping gold, silver and warm grey strokes that radiate outward, with fine scratched white lines cutting across the surface and lines of loose cursive script in dark brown at the upper right and left.
The mood is inward and still: the figure is closed in on herself, and the metallic light around her does all the movement.
Suits a bedroom above a bed head, a dressing area or a hallway where its square shape sits neatly on its own. The gold and silver tones work with brass or chrome light fittings, pale grey walls, linen bedding and mirrored or glass furniture. Good above a low sideboard in a modern entry.
