About Links in Time
A square abstract built from overlapping rectangles in off-white, grey, mauve and charcoal, arranged like a wall of stacked panels. A column of deep red runs down the upper centre, scraped thin at the edges so the darker underlayer shows through. Below it a horizontal band carries flecks of ochre, rust and pale blue over a red ground. Two narrow black lines fall vertically through the right half, each looping into a small knot, one near the top and one lower down.
The surface is worked with a blade and dry brush, leaving ridges, scrape marks and patches where paint has been pulled back. Its character is quiet and architectural, with the red column and the two looping black lines supplying the only sharp accents.
Suits a living room with grey or white walls, a hallway above a console, or an office reception. Works with charcoal upholstery, pale oak or walnut timber, and black metal frames. The red column picks up cushions, rugs or a single red object in the room without dominating it. Browse more modern art, square paintings, all hand-painted oil paintings.
