About Crimson Poppies on Silver
A square canvas divided into three horizontal bands: a dark maroon strip across the top, a broad silver-grey band through the middle, and a deep red field filling the lower half. Seven stylised poppies sit across the centre, their heads painted as rounded heart shapes in bright crimson and orange-red, each set at a different height. Thin dark stems drop from the blooms in wobbly hand-drawn lines, running down through the red band to the bottom edge of the canvas.
The paint is built up thickly, with a crackled, crusted surface catching light across the silver band and a rougher, pitted texture in the red below. The character is graphic and quiet, a simple row of flowers given weight by heavy texture and a strict three-band layout.
Works in a lounge room with grey or charcoal upholstery, above a sideboard, or in a dining space where the red picks up timber tones. The square format suits a narrow chimney breast or a hallway end wall. Pairs with silver or chrome light fittings, black-framed mirrors and plain white walls.
