About Standing Alone
A single figure stands in silhouette on the flat edge of a sandstone outcrop, hands at his sides, facing a sun that sits low on the horizon and burns white-gold through thin cloud. Below him the valley is filled to the brim with fog, lit apricot and peach, with only dark ridge tops and a few rock towers breaking the surface. The sky above carries streaked orange and grey cloud bands. A deep fissure splits the rock beside him, and low green scrub and heather crowd the foreground boulders.
The mood is quiet and wide open rather than dramatic: warm light, cool damp air and a lot of empty space. Fine detail in the lichen-marked rock and the shallow puddle on the ledge contrasts with the soft, almost featureless cloud sea beyond.
Suits a bedroom above the bedhead, a home office behind the desk, or a hallway that needs depth. The orange and gold tones work with timber furniture, tan leather, linen in oatmeal or grey, and black metal lamps.
