A towering wave explodes against a stone breakwater, throwing a tall fan of white spray and grey mist high into the air. The spray curls to the left and fills almost half the frame, with darker pockets of water showing in the folds of the surge.
On the right, a white lighthouse with a red lantern room stands on the end of the sea wall. Left of it, a raised walkway on concrete piers carries a few tiny figures who watch the storm. The sky is a flat pale grey, the sea is churned white, and the red cap is the only strong colour.
