A square black and white photograph looks across a rocky lake shore toward two ranges of mountains. Dark, rounded boulders fill the middle ground, scattered through shallow water that has been softened into a smooth, milky blur by a long exposure. The water curves in from the lower left and pulls the eye back to the lake.
Above the peaks, cloud is dragged into long diagonal streaks that sweep from the upper right across the whole sky. Snow dusts the mountain tops and fades into pale grey. The contrast is strong, with near-black rocks and cloud against bright water and a luminous gap of sky at the horizon, and the mountains sit low and calm beneath it.
