A wide, flat beach fills the lower half of the image in pale cream and sand tones. Rows of small bathing huts with blue and white or red and white stripes stand along the left side and across the middle distance. Tiny figures in light clothing are scattered over the sand, some in pairs and some in small groups near the centre.
Above them a large sky takes up more than half the picture, with thick, textured clouds in white, soft grey and pink against clear blue. On the right, three sailing boats with tan sails sit on a thin line of sea at the horizon. Dark wet sand in the bottom left corner adds a shadowed foreground. The thick brushwork reads as an impressionist oil-style scene.
