Sailboats and small dinghies sit at their moorings across the middle of the scene, their tall masts and furled sails reflected in calm water. On the right, a row of white houses with dark slate roofs sits among umbrella-shaped pines, with orange rooftops and a few more boats pulled up along the shore below them.
The water and sky are built from horizontal bands of thick, textured colour: pale butter yellow across the top and bottom, with strips of lilac, sky blue, turquoise and deeper cobalt between. A low, hazy headland sits on the left with tiny white sails beyond. The palette-knife style looks like a painting rather than a photograph, with visible ridges in the paint.
