About Crimson Sunrise
A low flat horizon sits about halfway up the canvas, dividing a burning red sky from equally red water. Just above the horizon line a small disc of white-gold sun emerges beneath a heavy charcoal cloud bank that spreads across the upper right. More grey cloud drifts along the top edge and in torn ribbons at the left. Below, the sun casts a broken column of yellow and white reflection straight down the centre, breaking into short horizontal dashes and wet ripples as it reaches the foreground.
The paint is blended smoothly in the sky, with no visible ridges, while the water carries flicked horizontal strokes of cream and pale gold over deep scarlet. The character is quiet and slightly dramatic: a single point of bright light held inside a field of red and smoke-dark cloud.
Suits a bedroom above the bedhead, a lounge room with grey or charcoal walls, or a hallway that needs one point of warmth. It works beside dark timber, black leather and brushed steel, and lifts neutral linen sofas. Hang it where lamp light can catch the gold reflection in the water at night.
