About Table for One
A slim woman sits on the corner of a pale grey block, her body turned slightly to the left, her face shaded under the brim of a wide apricot-orange hat. She wears a short dark brown slip dress with thin shoulder straps, and her bare legs cross at the knee with one foot resting out of frame. Her right hand holds a small white cup on its saucer, level with the top of the block. The background is divided into flat panels of charcoal, mid grey and off-white.
Texture carries the picture: the walls and block are worked with a heavy, combed impasto that catches light, while the figure herself is painted smoothly in warm tan and brown. The mood is quiet and self-contained, a single still moment in a cafe corner rather than a story.
The tall narrow shape suits a hallway end wall, the strip beside a doorway, a stairwell landing or a kitchen nook near the coffee machine. Grey and brown tones sit well with timber floors, linen sofas and black metal frames. Pair it with a second vertical figure work, or hang it alone above a slim console.
