A single large butterfly sits centred with its wings fully open, seen from above. The wing edges are a rich chocolate brown with small pale spots along the margins. Inside the brown, the upper wings shift from blue to aqua green, while the lower wings move from mint green into soft violet and purple, with small brown patches near the edges.
The background is a cream, paper-like surface layered with faint handwritten French script, ruled lines and pale grasses in beige. Brown cursive lettering reads "Papillon" across the top right and "Monarque" along the bottom right, with the large capital letters curling around the wings. The surface has a slightly textured, brushed finish, like an illustration blended with old correspondence.
