About The Decision
A woman is painted from behind, cropped at the waist and filling most of the canvas. Both arms are lifted, the left elbow swung wide to the edge of the frame, the right hand resting against the back of her neck and jaw, fingers clearly drawn. Her hair is a short auburn crop with copper and dark plum shading. The skin is built from warm ochre and cream, with soft shadow along the spine and under the shoulder blade, and no hard outlines anywhere.
Behind her the background is a mottled grey field with a large pale circle arcing around the head and shoulders, the texture flat and stone-like against the smooth body. The mood is quiet and inward, a private gesture caught mid-pause rather than a pose.
