Three butterflies sit apart on a plain white background, each with its wings fully open. At upper left is a blue butterfly with black-edged wings, white spots along the margins and a band of burnt orange at the lower tips. Below it, to the left, a smaller cream butterfly shows fine black veins and orange patches at the upper wing corners.
On the right, the largest butterfly has coral and apricot wings, a black upper edge and a golden, speckled body. The linework is dense pen stippling and hatching, with soft watercolour washes laid over it. The wing veins, scales and antennae are drawn sharply, and the white space around them gives the group a clean, specimen-plate look.
