Three bare oak trees stand close together in an open paddock, their branches spread wide and twisting against the sky. A broken, hollow stump sits between the left and middle trunks. The trees are dark silhouettes, and the fine twigs at the tips show up clearly against the glow behind them.
The sun sits low on the horizon, a band of yellow and orange under heavy blue-grey cloud, with peach light catching the cloud edges on the left. The ground is mossy green grass in uneven tufts, with clumps of reeds in the foreground. A line of distant trees marks the horizon. It is a sharp, richly detailed photograph taken from a low angle.
